Backup software needed for tape drive on Windows XP
(too old to reply)

I have a tape drive (Seagate, DDS-4 40 GB) tape drive in a PC. The PC
was used for Sun's Solaris, which had backup software which writes to
tape. Now I am giving the PC away, so have installed XP on it. I'd
like to get the tape drive working on XP, as it seems a shame to have
it installed, but not working.

I know some versions of Windows (the server ones) have sofware which
will back up to tape. But I can't seem to find any way to do this on
XP. Is there any free software which can back up to DDS-4 tape drives?

Go to the help and support center and check the description of ntbackup. If
your drive is properly installed I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I tried that, and all I could see was the floppy drive, or to write to
some other place once chose. But that did not include tape. I've not
checked if Windows found the tape drive, but it is seen on the SCSI bus
and worked fine under Solaris.

On some OSes, a SCSI tape drive is expected at a specific
SCSI address. Based on the first two refs I could find,
address 6 looks like what I'd try first.

Just a guess,

Ah, maybe you should have done that first...
there may be a driver missing .
