Hi,

"Toshiba product recovery CD-Rom" is what they call an OS installation
disk these days? I assume it must be, I thought I was missing a
Windows XP disk to I found this, good old MS.

I haven't opened it, as I'm having an issue or two with my Toshiba
laptop at present, and it might be going back. So is this all I get
these days as far as an OS goes?

TIA

That would be correct. The major brands had an idea to help cut down on
software piracy, so they encoded the copy of windows and all the
"promotional" bs software that comes with the system on to cds that will
only work with the same model of systems that they come with. Something to
do with the BIOS I am not sure what exactly. However "sometimes" you can
call and say that you lost your recovery cds and tell them you just want a
copy of windows XP and for basically shipping, they will send you one. Like
I said "Sometimes"

Hope that helps,
Chris
